In The Primary Care Physician and Health Care Reform, Dr. Bob Brook and Dr. Roy T. Young explore central issues to the decline in primary care physicans nationally such as salary and scope of practice and offer possible solutions.

"Willexpanding the scope of practice and increasing salaries motivateenough medical students to forsake careers in higher payingspecialties? Or will the fascination of working at the cuttingedge of medical technology still capture the minds and heartsof most medical students? The answer is unknown; however, itis certain that if the salary gap cannot be closed and the roleof the primary care physician redefined in a powerful way, thereis little hope of producing a health care system that provideshigh-quality affordable care to the US population."
